There was an interesting forum topic the other day, wherein posters were invited to write stories that were only a single sentence. My entry follows:
"Sitting under a ceaseless stream of consciousness which flows over his head just as a river runs under it, each insisting to be heard, the troll dreams of drowning."
I thought it was pretty good.

Many years ago when I used to read science fiction, I learned that the shortest sf story (perhaps by Damon Knight) was this:
"The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door."
you know, this kind of makes me want to find that forum and post something by faulkner; now THERE's a guy who could fuck up a sentence.
